Back To School time for many of us. That’s our son Jason sitting in a Batman chair at Smith Middle last year now entering 8th grade this year. Due to COVID, was not able to get an updated photo 🙁 But always excited to see all his special needs teachers and friends especially after 6 months of being at home. Have to admit Mom is pretty nervous but also excited too 🙂
Hope you all were able to enjoy the long Labor Day weekend with family and friends as well. I usually look forward to the cookouts and food from local fairs but things are quieter and different this year. Hopefully a return to normal in 2021. September and October also means cooler fall evenings. I remember years ago when Ron and I would set up a booth for the Hebron Harvest Festival and the temperatures would be 80-90 during the day and drop down into the chilly 50s as soon as the sun set. This summer we’ve been able to stay outside longer by hanging out on our patio and starting up the fire pit-love a warm crackling fire 🙂 My son loves the s’mores and hot chocolate too!

As a reminder we will be starting to wind down our landscape services at the end of September/early October so we can transition into our holiday decorating services. So if you have any major renovation projects, they may have to wait until spring. We do go out and take photos and measurements in the fall while snow-free so we can work on budgets, design and landscaping estimates in late winter as we wait for the snow to melt. This will be our 21st season of holiday lighting and decorating and it always surprises me when I start receiving inquiries in early August requesting pricing and availability. Must be all the Christmas in July sales being advertised or seeing the holiday products already being sold on Amazon and Home Depot lol

It reminds me that it’s never too early to start planning for the fall and upcoming winter holidays. Already designing holiday quotes and scheduling for November so now’s the time to contact us if you are planning a holiday event and need some professional help.
Speaking of planning, once the leaves start falling many of you will notice that you can now see your neighbors yards again and also that means they can see you and your activities. Many are spending more time at home since this spring, so by planting a privacy screening of evergreens, you can eliminate some of this.
Ron has been at the Prides Corner Farms Nursery Cromwell/Rocky Hill location and the fall selection of shrubs and perennials is looking great. The fully stocked trees are very healthy and freshly dug and I love the pannicle hydrangeas that last from May to October like this Little Quickfire summer hydrangea. Planting this time of year also makes for easier watering due to cooler evening temperatures and this goes for lawns as well. Less competition from summer weeds and heat.
Fact: Fall is the Best time to plant trees and shrubs as well as repairing lawns. The fall moisture (rains) helps the trees and shrubs establish their root systems. When the air temperatures are cooler than the soil, new root growth is encouraged without new top growth. The result is a stronger, better developed root system for the next spring when the plant begins to grow.
