Back To School week for many of us. That’s our son Jason sitting at his new desk and you can tell he loves school lol! Entering the 5th grade this year and he’s really excited to see all his special needs teachers and friends. Mom is pretty excited too 🙂
Many of us are also looking forward to the long Labor Day weekend. I especially enjoy the cookouts and hopefully some nice weather. This time of year also sees the official start of local Fairs and cooler fall evenings. I remember years ago when Ron and I would setup a booth for the Hebron Harvest Festival and the temperatures would be 80-90 during the day and drop down into the chilly 50s as soon as the sun set. This last week we’ve been able to stay outside longer by hanging out on our patio and starting up the fire pit. My son loves the s’mores and hot chocolate too!

This week we are also sending out our FALL 2017 newsletter (click here to open PDF) as a reminder that we will be starting to wind down our landscape services at the end of September/early October so we can transition into our holiday decorating services. This will be our 19th season of holiday lighting and decorating and it always surprises me when I start receiving inquiries in early August requesting pricing and availability. Must be all the Christmas in July sales being advertised or seeing the holiday products already being sold on QVC. Regardless it reminds me that it’s never too early to start planning for the fall and upcoming winter holidays.
Speaking of fall planning, once the leaves start falling many of you will start noticing that you can now see your neighbors yards again and also that means they can see you and your activities. By planting a privacy screening of evergreens, you can eliminate some of this. Ron has been at the new Prides Corner Farms Nursery Cromwell/Rocky Hill location and the fall selection of shrubs and perennials is looking great and the fully stocked trees are very healthy and freshly dug. Planting this time of year also makes for easier watering due to cooler evening temperatures and this goes for lawns as well. Less competition from summer weeds and heat.
Fact: Fall is the Best time to plant trees and shrubs. The fall moisture (rains) helps the trees and shrubs establish their root systems. When the air temperatures are cooler than the soil, new root growth is encouraged without new top growth. The result is a stronger, better developed root system for the next spring when the plant begins to grow.
